Intergalactic Immigration

January 1, 1970 @ 12:00 am

Guest Speaker

Jessica Werk
Associate Professor, Department of Astronomy
University of Washington

The majority of atoms in the Milky Way, including on our planet, did not originate within our own galaxy and were likely fused in stars from long-dead satellite galaxies. These atoms have been cycling over vast scales for billions of years, swept up in dramatic winds and caught in filamentary accretion flows onto galaxies. In this talk, Dr. Werk will review these processes and how we observe them.

W. M. Keck Observatory wishes to offer our deepest gratitude to our Astronomy Talk Series sponsors, Rob and Terry Ryan.
