Kuleana

World-class discoveries are made possible thanks to revered Maunakea, the best astronomical site on Earth, the support of the local community and government, as well as the dedication of our team of scientists, engineers, technicians, and staff in Hawaiʻi. Ever grateful, we are committed to our kuleana of giving back.

Through education, community citizenship, and career pathways, we strive to share the important, new knowledge learned from Maunakea with Hawaiʻi and the world while also supporting the local community.

By serving as an ingenuity incubator, preparing the next generation of scientists and instrumentalists, we hope to inspire youth, students, and early career professionals to advance the field, explore uncharted regions of the universe, become technology innovators, and develop into community-minded thought leaders.  We are excited to see where our youth takes us as we venture towards a vibrant future for astronomy in the Aloha State.
